What happened?
Between Feb. 23, 2026, and Feb. 25, 2026, a cybercriminal accessed the company’s computer servers and took copies of certain files containing sensitive information that may have belonged to current and former students and other individuals. Strategic Education completed its investigation on May 21, 2026 and determined that the multiple types of personally identifiable information were exposed in the incident.
Information Exposed:
- Names
- Social Security numbers
- Driver’s license numbers
- Passport numbers
The company began mailing notification letters to affected individuals on May 29, 2026. In the state of Maine alone, 2,673 residents were impacted by the data breach.
