What Happened?

On Nov. 18, 2025, Starr Insurance discovered suspicious activity within its computer systems.

The company secured its systems and launched an investigation with the help of external cybersecurity specialists. The investigation confirmed that an unauthorized actor accessed and copied files from certain Starr Insurance computer systems on Nov. 18, 2025.

A detailed review revealed that the compromised files contained sensitive information belonging to certain individuals.

The data was reportedly posted by the Akira ransomware group on a dark web network on April 1, 2026. The group claimed to have obtained 15 GB of data, including employee and customer information.
