What Happened?
Between July 10, 2025, and Aug. 16, 2025, Southern Illinois University experienced a data breach that exposed sensitive information belonging to students, faculty, staff and possibly others associated with the university.
The university did not discover the breach until on or about July 24, 2026.
Information Exposed:
- Names
- Addresses
- Social Security numbers
The breach impacted at least 1,597 people in Texas and 23 in Vermont, with the full scope potentially affecting more individuals across other states.
Notification to affected individuals was sent by U.S. Mail.
