What Happened?
On March 31, 2026, SMG detected suspicious activity on its internal corporate systems, which was determined to be the result of a cybersecurity incident.
The company launched an investigation with the help of third-party cybersecurity experts and notified law enforcement. The investigation revealed that an unauthorized party accessed certain SMG internal systems and obtained files between March 18 and April 7, 2026.
By July 15, 2026, SMG determined that some of the affected files contained sensitive personal information related to employees or their family members. The breach was disclosed to the Massachusetts Attorney General’s office on Sept. 11, 2026.
