Founded in 1991, the center has conducted more than 600 Phase I-IV clinical trials, primarily focused on metabolic disorders such as diabetes, obesity, hypertension and lipid conditions. The facility also supports research in additional areas like cardiology, neurology, pain management and gastroenterology.

What Happened?

Rainier Clinical Research Center experienced a data breach after its IT managed service provider suffered a security incident.

On Jan. 18, 2026, Rainier discovered unauthorized activity in its systems. An investigation revealed that an unauthorized actor accessed Rainier’s systems between Jan. 15 and Jan. 18, 2026.

A ransomware group known as INC RANSOM claimed responsibility for the attack and posted about it on the dark web on Feb. 23, 2026, stating they had obtained 187 GB of the organization’s data.

Information Exposed:

  • Names
  • Social Security numbers
  • Driver’s license or Washington ID card numbers

So far, the breach has affected at least 650 residents in Washington. Rainier notified affected individuals by mail on April 6, 2026,
