About Photon Health
Photon Health is a Brooklyn-based healthcare technology company founded in 2021. The company provides digital prescribing infrastructure and a prescription marketplace for patients, clinicians and pharmacies.
Photon Health’s platform is designed to help clinicians send prescriptions digitally, while allowing patients to compare pharmacies by price, availability and convenience, including options for pickup or delivery.
What Happened?
On Aug. 21, 2026, Photon Health discovered that an unauthorized third party had exploited a previously unknown security flaw (a zero-day vulnerability) in Metabase, a third-party application used for business intelligence and dashboards. This allowed the attacker to access certain data stored by Photon Health.
The company secured the application and hired cybersecurity experts to investigate and remediate the incident.
A thorough review determined that personal information may have been accessed. The investigation was completed on Sept. 4, 2026.
Notably, a ransomware group called Dire Wolf claimed responsibility and stated they obtained 63.3 GB of data, threatening to publish it on the dark web.
