About Microf, LLC
Microf LLC specializes in providing financing and lease-to-own solutions for the HVAC and water heater industries. Microf partners with a network of over 3,000 contractors across 44 states to help homeowners manage the cost of replacing critical home systems.
Founded in 2010, Microf aims to make it easier for homeowners, especially those with challenged credit, to access flexible payment options for HVAC and water heater replacements. Instead of requiring large upfront payments, Microf offers monthly lease payments, with ownership transferring to the customer after all payments are made.
What Happened?
In July 2025, Microf experienced a significant data breach involving ransomware. The Qilin ransomware group claimed responsibility for the attack and posted about it on the dark web on July 9, 2025. They alleged that they obtained company data and even released sample screenshots on their dark web portal.
Microf discovered that sensitive consumer information was accessed by unauthorized parties. The company notified the Massachusetts and New Hampshire Attorney General’s offices about the breach on Dec. 23, 2025. According to official filings, at least 24 Massachusetts residents and seven New Hampshire residents were affected.
