What Happened?
Between Jan. 22 and Jan. 25, 2026, Mercer Advisors experienced a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to systems used to store client data. The company discovered the breach and began working with external cybersecurity experts to contain the incident.
On March 25, 2026, the investigation determined that an unauthorized third party had obtained certain personal information.
A threat actor known as ShinyHunters claimed responsibility for the breach and posted about it on the dark web on Feb. 15, 2026, stating that over five million records had been compromised.

- Names
- Postal addresses
- Email addresses
- Telephone numbers
- Social Security numbers
- Dates of birth
- Driver's licenses
- Government-issued ID numbers (including passport numbers and state ID cards)
- Account numbers
- Financial account information
- Credit or debit card numbers
- Tax information (including tax returns)
- Estate planning information
- Access credentials (usernames and passwords)
- Medical information (including health information and medical conditions)
The breach was reported to various state authorities in late March and early April 2026. Mercer Advisors notified affected consumers by U.S. Mail.
In Texas, 15,486 individuals were affected; in Massachusetts, 2,178 were affected.
