What Happened?

On Sept. 2, 2025, MedPeds Associates of Sarasota discovered that an unauthorized person or entity had gained access to its computer system and installed a virus that encrypted its data.

The incident involved ransomware, with the BEAST group claiming responsibility and stating that they obtained 400 GB of the organization’s data. The breach was posted on the dark web on Sept. 16, 2025.

The breach was reported to the Maine Attorney General’s office on March 16, 2026, and written notice was sent to affected individuals on the same day.

A total of 21,430 people in the United States were affected, including 15 in Maine.

Information Exposed:

  • Names
  • Dates of birth
  • Home addresses
  • Phone numbers
  • Patient medical records

It is important to note that although Beast claimed to have stolen Social Security numbers, the claim has not been confirmed yet in public disclosures.
