What happened?
In July 2025, Medical Associates of Brevard, discovered it had fallen victim to a ransomware attack carried out by a group known as BianLian. The hackers claimed to have accessed a range of sensitive data, including accounting records, private information of partners and vendors, internal and external email correspondence, and databases.
MAB launched an investigation and determined that the data breach compromised both personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI). The medical group began notifying affected patients and individuals by mail on Sept. 5, 2025 and posted a data incident notice on its website.

The cybersecurity incident was also disclosed to the Maine Attorney General's office on Sept. 5, 2025, reporting 107 Maine and 60 Rhode Island residents impacted. The total number of individuals affected by the breach has not been released, but is believed to include current and former patients that have been seen at all Medical Associates of Brevard locations.
