What Happened?

On February 3, 2025, Lee Enterprises experienced a major ransomware attack that exposed the personal information of several thousand individuals. The ransomware group known as Qilin claimed responsibility for the attack, stating they had accessed sensitive company data and threatened to publish it on the dark web.

The data breach was confirmed on May 28, 2025, and affected approximately 39,779 people in the United States, including 17 residents of New Hampshire and 13 of Maine. The company notified state Attorney General's offices and affected consumers in writing on June 3, 2025.
