About Integrated Oncology Network

Integrated Oncology Network (ION) is a physician-led independent community oncology network that was founded in 2008. With more than 50 practice sites across 10 states and over 100 providers, ION delivers a wide range of services, including medical oncology, radiation oncology, urology, diagnostic testing, and various ancillary services. The organization is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee.

ION’s mission is to support independent community oncology practices by providing practice management and support services. These include revenue cycle management, payor relations, physician recruitment, marketing, finance and accounting, human resources, and information technology. By offering these services, ION helps member practices thrive in a competitive healthcare environment.

In September 2024, Cardinal Health announced a definitive agreement to acquire ION for $1.115 billion in cash. This acquisition aims to integrate ION’s community-based cancer care centers with Cardinal Health’s Navista, giving practices access to advanced analytics and technology solutions.

The December 2024 Data Breach

Between December 13, 2024 and December 16, 2024, Integrated Oncology Network experienced an email phishing incident. Unauthorized parties gained access to a small number of email and SharePoint accounts. Although the likely intent was to perpetuate an email phishing scheme, certain emails and files containing patient information were accessed.

The types of consumer information exposed in this breach include:

  • Names
  • Addresses
  • Dates of birth
  • Financial account information
  • Diagnosis information
  • Lab results
  • Medication details
  • Treatment information
  • Health insurance and claims information
  • Provider names

  • Social Security numbers (for a small number of individuals)

ION concluded its investigation on May 9, 2025. On June 13, 2025, the company notified affected oncology physician practices, and beginning June 27, 2025, ION started mailing notification letters directly to affected patients.
