What Happened?
Recently, Instructure experienced a data breach, which was publicly claimed by the hacking group ShinyHunters on May 2, 2026.
According to reports, the group alleges they accessed approximately 3.65 TB of data from Instructure’s systems and posted about the breach on the dark web.
Instructure confirmed a security incident involving unauthorized access to certain systems. The company took action, including revoking privileged credentials, rotating keys, deploying security patches and increasing monitoring across all platforms.
The incident appears to have impacted multiple institutions that use Instructure’s services.
The investigation remains ongoing. However, Instructure has indicated that the following types of information may have been exposed:

- Names
- Email addresses
- Student ID numbers
- Messages among users
At this time, Instructure has stated there is no evidence that passwords, dates of birth, government identifiers or financial information were involved.
