About Insight Partners

Insight Partners is a global venture capital and private equity firm that invests in high-growth technology, software and internet companies. Established in 1995, the company is headquartered in New York City and also has offices in London, Tel Aviv and Palo Alto.

The firm manages roughly $90 billion in assets as of April 2025 and has invested in more than 875 companies worldwide. Over 55 of its portfolio companies have gone public.

What happened?

On Jan. 16, 2025, Insight Partners discovered that an unauthorized actor had accessed information systems used by its human resources and finance teams. The breach was the result of a sophisticated social engineering attack that began on or around Oct. 25, 2024. The attacker exfiltrated data and, on Jan. 16, 2025, began encrypting the affected servers.

The data breach compromised personally identifiable information (PII) of current and former employees, in addition to portfolio company information, banking and tax information, and information related to limited partners. According to reports, at least 12,657 individuals impacted by the cybersecurity incident, include 25 Maine residents.

Insight Partners published a cyber incident statement on its website and has continued to update it through Sept. 4, 2025.
