What was the HRMC Ransomware Attack?

On May 31, 2025, Huron Regional Medical Center discovered suspicious activity in its network environment. The organization quickly launched an investigation, bringing in legal counsel and third-party forensic specialists to assess the situation. By Aug. 21, 2025, HRMC determined that sensitive information belonging to patients had potentially been accessed and copied by an unauthorized party. The BEAST ransomware group claimed responsibility for the attack and stated they obtained 800GB of data, posting about the incident on the dark web.

HRMC notified affected individuals and began offering credit monitoring and identity protection services at no cost. The breach was reported to the Montana Attorney General’s office on Sept. 9, 2025, with at least 20 Montana residents affected.
