What Happened?

On Aug. 12, 2026, a ransomware group known as INC RANSOM claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on Greater Austin Merchants Association. The group reported stealing 400 GB of data, including employee records, identification documents, financial and business records and other internal files.

The breach was publicly disclosed to the Texas Attorney General on Sept. 15, 2026. According to the state's report, approximately 6,000 individuals in Texas were affected by this incident.
