CSC operates alongside affiliated companies such as Shenandoah Settlement Services LLC (now High Crest Settlement) and Freedom Settlement Services LLC (formerly Seven Hills Settlement). Together, these entities handle a wide range of real estate transactions for individuals and businesses such as purchases and sale settlements, residential and commercial transactions, escrow services, title insurance and reports.

What Happened?

On or about Sept. 4, 2025, Charlottesville Settlement Company observed unusual activity within its network environment.

After securing its systems, CSC engaged external cybersecurity experts to investigate. The investigation revealed that an unknown actor had gained unauthorized access to the network on Sept. 2, 2025, and potentially accessed and acquired certain files.

CSC completed a comprehensive review and determined on March 10, 2026, that personal information belonging to consumers may have been involved. The company notified affected individuals in writing on March 18, 2026.

According to the disclosure filed with the Maine Attorney General’s office, a total of 22,041 people in the United States were affected, including 19 in Maine.

As of current public disclosures, names are the only confirmed information type to be exposed.
