What Happened?
Charles River Insurance Brokerage recently experienced a data breach.
On Dec. 19, 2025, the company disclosed the incident to the Massachusetts Attorney General's office. The breach was carried out by a ransomware group known as Akira, which posted about the hack on the Tor network on April 2, 2026.
The group claimed to have obtained 63GB of the organization's data.
The compromised data reportedly includes detailed personal and financial information belonging to both employees and customers. The types of information exposed are:
