About CEI Vision Partners

CEI Vision Partners is a management services organization that operates a network of eye care practices, primarily in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions. The company was formed in 2018 through a partnership with the Cincinnati Eye Institute and includes more than 150 providers across 47 clinical centers and eight ambulatory surgical centers.

In late 2021, CEI Vision Partners was acquired by EyeCare Partners, the nation’s leading clinically integrated network of ophthalmology and optometry providers. This combination created a network serving over three million patients annually, with more than 280 ophthalmologists and 700 optometrists across 18 states.

The May 2024 Data Breach

On May 26, 2024, CEI Vision Partners discovered that an unauthorized actor had gained access to its computer network. The investigation revealed that this access occurred between May 24 and May 27, 2024.

A review was completed June 10, 2025, and it was determined that files potentially accessed by the cybercriminal contained sensitive personal, financial and protected health information. The number of affected individuals has not been released, but is believed to be in the thousands.

The data breach was disclosed to the Montana Attorney General's office on Aug. 8, 2025 and the Vermont Attorney General on Aug. 13, 2025 and the Massachusetts AG on Aug. 14, 2025. CEI Vision Partners is notifying impacted individuals by mail.
