What Happened?

On Aug. 18, 2025, the North Atlantic States Carpenters Benefits Fund discovered suspicious activity within the network of its Hamden, Conn., office. steps were taken to reset passwords and limit the impact, and a forensic investigation was launched with the help of third-party specialists.

The investigation revealed that an unauthorized actor accessed and/or acquired certain files on the office's systems on that same day. The breach may have exposed a wide range of sensitive information, which can vary by individual.

The fund reported the incident to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Oct. 17, 2025. The attorneys general of Maine, Massachusetts, Texas, and Vermont have also been notified. A notice of the incident was also posted on its website.

The total number of affected individuals is currently undisclosed; however, 28,349 Massachusetts residents, 2,063 Maine residents, and 567 Texas residents were affected.
