About Caltrain
Founded in 1863, Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, more commonly known as Caltrain, operates a commuter rail service that connects the San Francisco Peninsula with San Jose and Gilroy. The agency is a regional joint powers authority representing San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.
What Happened?
On Nov. 21, 2025, Caltrain discovered that some of its data may have been involved in a security incident.
The breach stemmed from a network disruption at Turbo Data Systems (TDS), a third-party vendor that processes citation payment services for Caltrain and other agencies. The initial disruption occurred in Nov. 2024, when unauthorized access to certain files was detected.
After an investigation, Caltrain and TDS determined that files containing sensitive information may have been accessed without authorization. Affected individuals were notified by written notice.
The breach was reported to the California Attorney General on Nov. 3, 2026.
