What Happened?

In February 2026, Buist Byars & Taylor LLC experienced a cyber event that resulted in unauthorized access to files stored in its computer environment.

The investigation, conducted with third-party forensic specialists, determined that files were accessed or copied by an unauthorized actor between Jan. 14 and Feb. 13, 2026. The firm completed its review of the impacted files around July 16, 2026, and began notifying affected individuals shortly thereafter.

The breach affected individuals in several states, including at least 1,669 in South Carolina, 12 in Massachusetts, three in New Hampshire and two in Vermont.
