Branhaven Motors Inc. discovered on April 30, 2025, that it had experienced a data breach. The incident was the result of unauthorized access to the company’s network, which reportedly took place between September 9, 2024, and September 10, 2024. The ransomware group known as BLACK SUIT claimed responsibility for the attack and stated they had access to more than 50 GB of sensitive data, including user, business, employee, and financial information, and threatened to publish it on the dark web.

The company notified affected consumers by written notice on May 20, 2025. According to reports filed with state attorneys general, a total of 11,774 people in the United States were impacted, including residents of Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
