What Happened?

On Feb. 1, 2026, Beacon Pointe Advisors identified unauthorized access to its IT network.

The company responded by securing its network, launching an investigation with a cybersecurity firm, and notifying account custodians. The investigation found that between Jan. 30 and Feb. 1, 2026, an unauthorized actor used social engineering to access part of the network and steal certain files.

A threat actor known as ShinyHunters claimed responsibility for the breach and posted about it on the dark web on Feb. 15, 2026, alleging that over 100,000 records were compromised, including personally identifiable information (PII) and internal corporate data.

Beacon Pointe Advisors disclosed the breach to the Indiana Attorney General, Massachusetts Attorney General, and the Vermont Attorney General starting on Feb. 20, 2026.

Information exposed:

  • Names
  • Social Security numbers
  • Driver's licenses
  • Financial account information

269 total people have been affected by the breach, of which 190 are from Indiana and three from Massachusetts.
