What Happened?

On May 15, 2026, Popular was notified by Evertec, Inc., a third-party core financial processing and information technology service provider, that Evertec had experienced a cybersecurity incident.

This incident affected certain clients, including Popular and its subsidiary Banco Popular de Puerto Rico. Evertec identified that data from their environment had been affected, though it was not specified as compromised. Popular began a cybersecurity incident response process and notified regulators.

The company has stated that affected customers will be notified directly.
