What Happened?

Ampex Data Systems experienced a cybersecurity incident involving ransomware.

On March 21, 2026, a threat actor group known as PLAY accessed and encrypted the network at one of Ampex’s office locations. The company engaged IT security consultants, shut down servers and worked with a forensic IT firm to investigate and contain the breach.

The incident was contained by March 23, 2026, but the full extent of the data exposure was not known until May 9, 2026.

The following types of personal information were exposed:

  • Banking information
  • Dates of birth
  • Driver’s licenses
  • Names
  • Social Security numbers

The breach affected at least 3,723 individuals in the United States, including two in Maine. Those impacted include current and former contractors, employees and dependents of Delta Information Systems and its subsidiaries, including Ampex. T
