Texas Hearing Institute, a nonprofit pediatric hearing center in Houston, disclosed a data breach involving unauthorized access to sensitive personal and medical information.

On April 2, 2026, the ransomware group known as Interlock posted on the dark web, claiming to have obtained 540 GB of the organization's internal data.

An investigation into the incident concluded on or about April 22, 2026. The investigation confirmed that an unauthorized party had gained access to certain personal information stored within the organization's network environment.

A review of the affected data, conducted to determine which specific individuals were impacted and what types of information were involved, concluded on June 19, 2026.

The types of information confirmed to have been exposed included names, Social Security numbers and medical records.

The breach was reported to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation on June 29, 2026. Texas Hearing Institute mailed notification letters to impacted consumers on June 26, 2026.

At this time, the total number of individuals affected in the United States has not been publicly disclosed.

Texas Hearing Institute's response to the breach

Texas Hearing Institute is providing affected individuals with 24 months of complimentary single-bureau credit monitoring, credit report and credit score services through CyberScout.

To activate the services, affected individuals must enroll within 90 days of the date of their notification letter using the unique code included with the letter.

The organization has set up a dedicated toll-free call center for questions about the incident. Affected individuals can call 1-844-507-4262, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST, excluding U.S. national holidays.
