Telecare Data Breach: Social Security Numbers Exposed

Telecare Corp., one of the nation's largest providers of behavioral health services, disclosed a data breach involving sensitive personal and medical information.

The company posted a notice of the data security incident on its website.

On or around Jan. 25, 2026, the company discovered unusual activity within its digital environment. Upon discovering this activity, Telecare took measures to secure the network and engaged a team of cybersecurity experts to assess, contain and remediate the incident.

The investigation determined that certain data may have been acquired without authorization as a result of the incident.

After completing a thorough review of the impacted data on Sept. 4, 2026, the company confirmed that certain personal information may have been affected.

On Feb. 19, 2026, a ransomware group known as Qilin posted a claim on the dark web stating it had obtained data belonging to Telecare. The group indicated it intended to publish the stolen data within nine to 10 days.

The types of information exposed included both personally identifiable information and protected health information including names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, driver's license numbers, diagnoses and conditions, treatment information, lab results, medications, medical record or patient ID numbers and health insurance information.

Telecare's response to the breach

Telecare is offering potentially impacted individuals 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection services. The company recommended that individuals enroll in the services provided and follow the recommendations contained in the notification letter.

Telecare sent notification letters to potentially impacted individuals that included steps they can take to protect their information.
