On March 4, 2026, Teamsters Local 175, based in South Charleston, W.Va., discovered a data breach affecting 24,780 individuals across the United States, including two Maine residents and seven Massachusetts residents.

According to the disclosure filed with the Maine Attorney General, the breach exposed sensitive personally identifiable information (PII): first and last names, Social Security numbers and commercial driver’s license information.

The incident was the result of a ransomware attack carried out by the threat actor known as INC RANSOM. The group publicly claimed responsibility for the breach on Feb. 21, 2025, via a posting on the Tor network, stating they had obtained data belonging to Teamsters Local 175.

The union initiated an investigation with the help of third-party forensic experts. The investigation determined on Jan. 2, 2026, that personal information may have been accessed by the attackers.

The incident was disclosed to the Massachusetts Attorney General. Teamsters Local 175 notified affected individuals by written letter on March 10, 2026, providing details of the breach and outlining steps for protection.

Notably, a secondary disclosure was filed with the Maine Attorney General on April 2, 2026, detailing an additional 2,382 individuals affected.

Teamsters Local 175’s response

To help those impacted, Teamsters Local 175 is offering complimentary credit monitoring, credit reports and credit score services for 12 months through Cyberscout, a company specializing in fraud assistance.

Affected individuals are encouraged to enroll in these services within 90 days of receiving their notification letter. The union also recommends that individuals remain vigilant by reviewing account statements and credit history for unauthorized activity, placing fraud alerts or security freezes with credit bureaus, and reporting any suspicious incidents to financial institutions or law enforcement.
