On Feb. 26, 2025, Skin & Beauty Center Inc., a full-service dermatology practice in Southern California, and DermCare Management became aware of suspicious activity on their computer systems on Feb. 26, 2025. The company stated that it took steps to secure its network and began an investigation into what occurred.

By March 3, 2025, the investigation found that an unknown actor may have copied certain patient information from the company's network without permission. The notice does not identify who was behind the intrusion or describe the specific method used to access the systems.

Skin & Beauty Center then launched a full review of the affected files to determine which patients were impacted and what types of information were involved. That review was completed on March 2, 2026.

The types of information potentially exposed may also vary from person to person include Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, financial account information, medical information and health insurance information.

Skin & Beauty Center posted an updated notice on its website on April 14, 2026.

The company began mailing letters to affected individuals after completing its review of the compromised files The total number of individuals affected has not been publicly disclosed.

Skin & Beauty Center's response to the breach

Skin & Beauty Center provided guidance on free resources that are available to help individuals monitor their accounts and credit reports. These resources include information on how to place a fraud alert or security freeze on a credit file.

Given the sensitive nature of the information involved, including Social Security numbers and financial account data, affected individuals may want to act to protect themselves from potential misuse of their data.

Skin & Beauty Center has set up a dedicated toll-free assistance line for people who have questions about the breach. That number is 833-998-7517 and is staffed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST, excluding holidays.

Steps to take if your information was exposed

  • Place a fraud alert or credit freeze on your credit file by contacting Equifax (1-888-298-0045), Experian (1-888-397-3742) or TransUnion (1-800-916-8800), as this can help prevent new accounts from being opened using your personal information.
  • Request your free credit reports at AnnualCreditReport.com and review them carefully for any accounts, inquiries or activity you do not recognize.
  • Monitor your financial account statements for unauthorized transactions and report any suspicious activity to your bank or financial institution immediately.
  • Review your health insurance Explanation of Benefits statements for medical services, prescriptions or claims you did not authorize, which could be a sign that someone is misusing your health insurance information.
  • Be cautious of phishing attempts that reference Skin & Beauty Center or this data breach by name, as scammers sometimes use real breach notifications to trick people into sharing additional personal details.
