







On Feb. 6, 2025, Saint Anthony Hospital, a nonprofit community hospital in Chicago, discovered that an unauthorized party had gained access to employee email accounts. The breach was disclosed to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Sept. 12, 2025.
The cybersecurity incident exposed sensitive information of 6,679 individuals, including patients and staff. The total number of patients and staff impacted by the security breach is not yet known.
Compromised information potentially includes names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, dates of service, telephone numbers, and protected health information. The possible exposure of both PII and PHI, puts individuals at risk for identity theft and medical fraud.
In response to the breach, Saint Anthony Hospital launched an investigation with the help of cybersecurity experts. The hospital has taken steps to secure its systems and continues to evaluate and enhance its security practices to better protect sensitive information.

The hospital’s notice to consumers, includes detailed instructions on how to place fraud alerts, request free credit reports and protect against medical identity theft.
