On May 21, 2025, Riverbay Corporation, the management company for Co-op City in the Bronx, discovered unusual activity within its information technology network. Immediate action was taken to isolate and secure their systems. With the help of a third-party cybersecurity firm, Riverbay launched an investigation and notified law enforcement. The investigation revealed that an unauthorized party had gained access to Riverbay’s IT network and systems over a month-long period, from April 21, 2025, to May 21, 2025.

By June 2, 2025, it was confirmed that the unauthorized party had accessed and/or acquired files from certain computer systems. The breach potentially involved a broad group of individuals, including Co-op City shareholders and applicants, current and former Riverbay employees, and residents whose information was provided by a shareholder.

The types of personally identifiable information (PII) exposed in this incident include names, Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, and routing numbers.

The full details of the incident, including the official notice to consumers, are available in the data security incident notice PDF posted by Riverbay.
