On Feb. 14, 2024, Rio Dental was informed that a third-party vendor supporting its operations involved in a ransomware attack. An investigation revealed that files containing sensitive patient data were accessed during the data breach.

The cyberattack compromised a plethora of personal and protected health information belonging to patients. Exposed information included patient names, dates of birth, mental or physical condition details, treatment information, procedure types, provider names, medical dates of service, billing and claim information, health insurance group and claim numbers, subscriber member numbers, health benefit plans, patient account and ID numbers, diagnoses and diagnosis codes, prescription information, health insurance policy and beneficiary numbers, treatment locations, taxpayer ID numbers, driver’s license or state identification numbers, Medicaid IDs, Social Security numbers, routing numbers and treatment costs.

Rio Dental published a data security incident notice on its website and is notifying affected individuals by mail.
