Pathfinder LL&D Insurance Group Data Breach Affects 7k Texans

Pathfinder/LL&D Insurance Group, a Houston-based independent insurance agency that has been operating since 1913, disclosed a data breach that affected thousands of people.

A disclosure was filed with the Texas Attorney General on April 29, 2026, and posted a notice of the incident to its website.

On Sept. 8, 2025, the company discovered suspicious activity on its network. An investigation into the activity revealed that an unauthorized actor gained access to files from the network environment between Sept. 6 and Sept. 8, 2025.

On Sept. 15, 2025, the PLAY ransomware group posted on a dark web forum, claiming it had obtained organizational data from Pathfinder/LL&D Insurance Group. The group also announced it planned to publish the stolen data within four to five days of the posting.

The compromised data reportedly included private and personal information, client documents, budgets, payroll records, accounting files, tax data, identification details and financial information.

The confirmed types of consumer information exposed in the breach included names, addresses, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, financial information (such as account numbers or credit or debit card numbers), medical information, health insurance information and dates of birth.

Pathfinder began mailing notification letters to affected individuals of the incident on July 29, 2026. The total number of individuals impacted nationwide has not been publicly reported; however, so far, 7,382 Texas residents were impacted.

Pathfinder's response to the breach

Pathfinder is providing credit monitoring services at no cost for individuals who had their Social Security number compromised. Information on the steps to signing up for these services are included in the notification letter,
