Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, a nonprofit cancer care organization based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has disclosed a data breach involving one of its service providers, Unlimited Technology Systems LLC.
On Oct. 19, 2025, Unlimited Technology Systems, which provides practice management software to health care organizations, including Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, discovered unauthorized activity within its commercial datacenter.
A subsequent investigation determined that an unauthorized party had gained access to the system between Oct. 5 and 10, 2025, and obtained certain personal information and protected health information belonging to patients and related individuals of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.
The types of information exposed included names and personal information in one or more of the following categories: health insurance and patient balance information (such as insurance policy numbers or claims and benefits information), medical information (such as medical record numbers, dates of service and diagnosis information), scanned documents (such as driver's licenses or other government identification, insurance cards and intake forms), Social Security numbers and other personal information (such as date of birth, email address, physical address, phone number or demographic information).
The specific types of information involved varied depending on the individual, meaning not every affected person had the same categories of data exposed.
According to the notice, the breach did not include full patient medical records, medical imaging or financial information such as credit card or bank account numbers.
The cancer center posted a notice on its website providing details about the incident and resources for affected individuals. Additionally, the center began mailing consumer notifications on or around July 20, 2026.
Unlimited sent notification letters to affected individuals whose mailing addresses were sufficiently available. For those whose addresses were not sufficiently available, a substitute notice was posted on the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center website to help ensure broader awareness of the incident.
Additionally, Unlimited has arranged for complimentary identity monitoring services through Kroll.
Individuals who believe their information may have been affected can call Unlimited's dedicated call center at 844-576-3063 for more information. The call center is available Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time, excluding major U.S. holidays. Callers can confirm whether they are eligible for the complimentary identity monitoring services and receive assistance with enrollment.
