Kashi Dental, a family-oriented general and cosmetic dental practice located at 9163 W FM 78 in Converse, Texas, disclosed a data breach in July 2026 that has impacted 6,027 Texas residents. The practice provides a range of dental services, including preventive care, dental implants, Invisalign and pediatric dentistry to patients in the greater San Antonio area.
Kashi Dental is part of Soniva Dental Care, which experienced a broader data breach affecting at least 30,000 Texans.
On May 26, 2026, Kashi Dental was informed by its IT support company that irregularities had been identified related to remote access session hosts. Within minutes, the IT team recognized that a ransomware attack had occurred and began taking immediate steps to contain it.
The IT team's primary focus shifted to locking down external access to the remote desktop web services infrastructure and ensuring that all external connections were terminated. The practice also disabled all accounts with access to remote desktop web access to cut off potential entry points. At the same time, an office-wide password reset was forced to prevent further unauthorized access to the practice's systems.
The patient record platform was restored after these containment measures were put in place, and archive data was not affected by the attack. The investigation that followed revealed that certain personal information of patients associated with the practice might have been accessed during the incident.
The personally identifiable information (PII) that may have been exposed included names, addresses, dates of birth, driver's license numbers and government-issued ID numbers such as passport or state ID card numbers.
Protected health information (PHI) that may have been exposed included medical information and health insurance information.
The company stated that the incident did not affect payment information or dental care.
Kashi Dental began notifying affected individuals in July 2026 and posted a notice on its website explaining what happened and outlining the steps patients can take to protect themselves.
Kashi Dental is offering complimentary identity protection monitoring services to affected individuals. This service is designed to help patients monitor for potential misuse of their personal information.
