In a recent data breach disclosure, INTERLINK Health Services Inc., a managed care corporation based in Hillsboro, Oregon, experienced unauthorized access to one of its employee email accounts.

The breach occurred between June 15, 2024, and June 17, 2024, when an unknown actor gained access to the email account and searched for terms like "ACH" and "wire transfer." Although the intruder's primary focus was on these terms, there is a possibility that other emails, including those containing sensitive information, were viewed or downloaded.

On December 16, 2024, a comprehensive review by external experts confirmed that Protected Health Information, commonly referred to as "PHI", related to some accounts was compromised.

The breach affected at least five individuals in Massachusetts, as reported to the Massachusetts Attorney General's office.

INTERLINK's Response

In response to the breach, INTERLINK Health Services secured the affected email account and implemented enhanced network safeguards. The company has also provided additional training to its staff to prevent similar incidents in the future.

For those potentially affected by the breach, INTERLINK is offering free access to Experian credit monitoring services for one year. This service is designed to help individuals monitor their information and detect any signs of misuse. Affected individuals are encouraged to enroll in this service by visiting Experian IdentityWorks before May 30, 2025.

Additionally, INTERLINK advises individuals to remain vigilant by monitoring their financial and account statements and reporting any unusual activity to their financial institutions and law enforcement.

Protect Your Data

A breach notice means your personal details could be circulating far beyond the organization involved. One practical step is continuous monitoring: services such as Identity Defender (included with an ExpressVPN subscription) can automatically check dark-web markets, flag new credit-file activity, and request removal of your information from data-broker sites.

This kind of “early-warning system” can’t undo a breach, but it can help you spot misuse quickly and limit further exposure. ExpressVPN is offering 61% off, risk-free for 30 days, with ID Theft Insurance included and no extra cost for those who sign up for one or two years.
