
On Jan. 2, 2026, Gentex Optics, Inc. notified authorities of a data breach exposing personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI) of at least 249 individuals in the state. The incident involved unauthorized access to sensitive employee and dependent information, including names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, plan names, effective dates, and member or subscriber IDs related to open enrollment benefits.
The breach was discovered when Gentex Optics identified suspicious activity involving employee records. Although the company has not disclosed the exact method of intrusion or the responsible party, the compromised data includes highly sensitive details that could be used for identity theft or fraud.
The company disclosed the data breach to the Massachusetts Attorney General on Jan. 2, 2026, and has notified impacted individuals by mail.
Following the discovery of the breach, Gentex Optics took immediate action to investigate and contain the incident. The company worked to determine the scope of the breach and assess which individuals were affected. As part of their response, Gentex Optics has reinforced organizational and security measures to help prevent future incidents.
