Families United Network, a Pennsylvania-based nonprofit social service agency focused on child welfare, disclosed a data breach involving unauthorized access to an employee email account in December 2025.
The organization, also known as FUN, is headquartered in Muncy, Pennsylvania, and serves children annually through foster care, adoption, peer support and residential services across multiple offices in Pennsylvania.
The organization posted a notice on its website informing affected individuals about the incident and the steps they can take to help protect their information.
Families United Network detected suspicious activity within its email environment. In response, the organization took steps to confirm the security of its systems and launched an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the incident.
The investigation confirmed that an unauthorized actor gained access to a single employee email account between Dec. 19, 2025, and Dec. 22, 2025. During that four-day window, the unauthorized actor downloaded some of the contents of the email account.
Following the discovery, Families United Network conducted a comprehensive review of the affected materials to identify the personal information contained within them and to determine which individuals were impacted.
The types of information that may have been exposed include names, dates of birth, driver's license numbers, financial account information, health insurance information, medical information, Social Security numbers and state identification numbers.
Families United Network encouraged affected individuals to remain vigilant with respect to their personal information and to review their account statements and credit reports for suspicious activity. Affected individuals may also wish to take proactive steps to protect their personal information.
