Cabot Packing Data Breach Potentially Exposes Sensitive Personal Information

Cabot Packing LLC, a California agriculture company that operates as part of the HMC Farms group, recently disclosed a data breach. The company is involved in produce handling, packing and intrastate refrigerated trucking in the Reedley and Kingsburg areas of California's San Joaquin Valley. Cabot Packing also does business as HMC Reedley, according to state and federal records.

HMC Farms, the parent group, is a leading grower, packer, shipper and marketer of stone fruit and table grapes.

The breach occurred on June 5, 2026. Upon discovery, the company began an investigation to determine the scope and details of the unauthorized activity.

The investigation revealed that some employee personal information could have been accessed or downloaded during the incident. A review process conducted to determine the types of personal information impacted concluded on June 23, 2026.

At this time, the information types compromised remain undisclosed to the public but may include personal information such as contact details, Social Security numbers, or government ID numbers.

The breach was reported to the California Attorney General on July 13, 2026.

The total number of individuals affected was not disclosed. The company has begun sending notification letters to affected individuals by mail.

Cabot Packing's response to the breach

Cabot Packing is offering complimentary identity protection services to affected individuals. Affected individuals have until Oct. 10, 2026, to enroll in the free identity protection services.

The notification letter also included recommendations for protecting personal information. These included reviewing account statements and credit reports closely, placing fraud alerts with credit reporting agencies, considering security freezes on credit files and reporting any suspicious activity to law enforcement or the Federal Trade Commission.
