A data breach at Beacon Pointe Advisors, one of the nation’s largest independent registered investment advisory firms, has potentially exposed sensitive personal information.

The incident was first identified on Feb. 1, 2026, when the company detected unauthorized access to its IT network. An investigation determined that between Jan. 30 and Feb. 1, 2026, a threat actor used social engineering tactics to gain access to a portion of the company’s network and exfiltrate certain files.

The group known as ShinyHunters has claimed responsibility for the breach and, on Feb. 15, 2026, posted on the dark web that they had compromised over 100,000 records, including personally identifiable information (PII) and internal corporate data.

The exposed information includes names and potentially other personal identifiers, although the full extent of the data types affected is still being evaluated and has not been disclosed to the public.

The incident was disclosed to the Vermont Attorney General. At this time, the number of individuals affected by this breach is unknown.
