Barnhart Crane & Rigging Co. Inc., a Memphis-based heavy lift and heavy transport contractor, disclosed a data breach that affected approximately 22,822 individuals in the United States, including eight Maine residents identified as affected.
Barnhart began notifying consumers on May 21, 2026. The company also posted a notice of the data security incident on its website.
The types of information exposed in the breach included full names, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers or state identification numbers, passport numbers, financial account information, dates of birth, health information and insurance information.
Barnhart Crane & Rigging included specific advice on guarding against medical identity theft.
The notification recommended that consumers only share their health insurance cards with health care providers and family members who are covered under their insurance plan or who help with their medical care. It also urged individuals to carefully review explanation of benefits statements from their health insurance companies and follow up with insurers or care providers about any items they do not recognize.
The company further advised affected individuals to request a year-to-date report of all services billed under their accounts from their insurance companies. Reviewing this report can help identify any fraudulent medical claims that may have been filed using stolen information.
