
Advantage Home Care, a non-medical home care provider based in St. Louis, Missouri, disclosed a data breach that affected approximately 19,851 individuals in the United States.
Advantage Home Care became aware of the security incident on June 16, 2026. By June 26, 2026, the company learned that the unauthorized party had acquired data that may have included personal information stored on that server.
Notably, on July 17, 2026, a ransomware group known as The Gentlemen posted on the dark web's Tor network, claiming it had obtained the organization's data and intended to publish it within nine to 10 days.
The types of personally identifiable information and protected health information exposed varied depending on the individual.
For patients, the information compromised could have included first and last name, date of birth, Social Security number, address, phone number and information about medical conditions and care received.
For current or former employees, the exposed data could have included first and last name, date of birth, Social Security number, address, phone number and information about their employment. Employees who were enrolled in the company's health plan may have also had health insurance information, plan enrollment details, claims information, healthcare provider information and health benefits information exposed.
The breach was disclosed to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Aug. 25, 2026. Additionally, the company posted a notice on its website with details about the incident.
Advantage Home Care began notifying consumers on Aug. 25, 2026.
Advantage Home Care is offering affected adults 12 months of free credit monitoring, a single bureau credit report, a single bureau credit score and cyber monitoring services through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company.
Parents and guardians of affected minor patients are being offered cyber monitoring services for themselves and their minor children at no charge for 12 months through Cyberscout.
Affected individuals who received a notification letter should follow the enrollment instructions and use the unique enrollment code included in that letter.
Advantage Home Care has set up a toll-free incident response line at 1-888-398-2084, available Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time, for individuals who have questions about the incident.
