The Gatesworth Communities is a group of locally owned and operated senior living communities based in St. Louis, Missouri. Founded in 1988, The Gatesworth offers a continuum of care for older adults, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, and extended care. The organization’s flagship location is at One McKnight Place in Ladue, serving residents throughout St. Louis County.

The organization has expanded to include McKnight Place Assisted Living, McKnight Place Extended Care and Parc Provence, which specializes in memory care. The company employs more than 230 staff members.

What happened?

On or around Feb. 5, 2025, The Gatesworth Communities learned of suspicious activity within its network, which was first detected by a third-party IT vendor. An investigation determined that an unauthorized actor gained access to The Gatesworth Communities systems between Jan. 22, 2025, and Jan. 26, 2025.

During the cybersecurity incident, files and folders were potentially copied from the network. On July 16, 2025, a review determined that personal and protected health information belonging to residents and patients may have been accessed.

The communities began notifying affected individuals by mail on Aug. 26, 2025 and posted a Notice of Data Privacy Incident on its website. The data breach was also disclosed to the Montana Attorney General's office.

The total number of impacted individuals has not been released.
