What Happened?
On Aug. 22, 2025, KCI Telecommunications detected suspicious activity on its network.
The company secured its systems and launched an investigation with the help of third-party cybersecurity and digital forensics specialists. Federal law enforcement was also notified.
The investigation determined that certain files were accessed by an unauthorized actor on the same day, and some information was viewed or downloaded. A comprehensive review of the impacted data revealed that the following types of consumer information were exposed:

KCI completed its internal review and began notifying affected individuals on Feb. 25, 2026, by written notice. The breach was also disclosed to the the Maine Attorney General.
The ransomware group Akira claimed responsibility for the attack and posted about the breach on the dark web on Sept. 19, 2025. The group alleged that they obtained corporate data, including employee and customer information, payment details and confidential files.
