University of Dallas, a private Catholic university located in Irving, Texas, disclosed a data breach after an unauthorized actor gained access to its computer systems in August 2025.

Between Aug. 11, 2025, and Aug. 20, 2025, an unauthorized actor gained access to certain University of Dallas systems. Working with third-party cybersecurity specialists, the university investigated the incident and completed a comprehensive review of the files that were potentially accessed.

The types of personal information that may have been accessed included names, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, state identification card numbers, passport numbers, financial account information (such as credit or debit card numbers), medical information and health insurance information.

A total of 10,975 individuals were impacted, 7,313 Texas residents, 93 Massachusetts residents, 55 Indiana residents, 52 New Hampshire residents, five Maine residents and five Vermont residents have been affected.

The university began sending written notifications to affected individuals on May 29, 2026. It also posted a notice on its website.

University of Dallas' response to the breach

The University of Dallas is offering affected individuals complimentary credit monitoring through Experian IdentityWorks.

The monitoring service includes an Experian credit report at signup, credit monitoring across all three major bureaus (Experian, Equifax and TransUnion), identity restoration assistance and $1 million in identity theft insurance.

Affected individuals must enroll in the credit monitoring service by Sept. 30, 2026, using the activation code provided in their notification letter.

The university encouraged affected individuals to remain vigilant by reviewing their financial statements and monitoring for suspicious activity over the next 12 to 24 months. It has also set up a dedicated phone line for questions at 833-918-4942, available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Central time, excluding major U.S. holidays.
