The J. Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center, a nonprofit organization in Warwick, Rhode Island, that provides services to children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, disclosed a data breach that occurred earlier this year, affecting 5,630 individuals in the United States, including 97 Massachusetts residents.

The incident took place over a six-day period between Jan. 22 and Jan. 28, 2026.

An investigation determined that the exposed data included both personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI). Names, addresses, dates of birth and Social Security numbers. Clinical information was also compromised, including provider names, diagnoses and treatment notes. Additionally, financial information was exposed, including billing codes, health insurance details and Medicare/Medicaid ID numbers.

The organization began notifying affected individuals on July 15, 2026. It also posted a notice on its website.

Trudeau Center's response to the breach

The organization secured the services of Kroll to provide identity monitoring at no cost to affected individuals for 24 months.

Affected individuals can enroll by visiting the Kroll enrollment page and entering the membership number included in their notification letter. Each letter includes an enrollment deadline. More information about the identity monitoring services is available at Kroll's information page.

The Trudeau Center has also set up a dedicated assistance line at 844-959-7133, available Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Eastern time, excluding major U.S. holidays.
