Towerpoint Wealth LLC, a boutique independent wealth management firm headquartered in Sacramento, California, disclosed a data breach that exposed sensitive personal and financial information of clients, including minors.

Towerpoint Wealth identified suspicious, unauthorized activity involving certain systems within its environment on April 27, 2026. Based on the company's disclosure, the breach itself occurred on April 24, 2026.

Upon detecting the suspicious activity, the firm took steps to secure its systems and brought in third-party cybersecurity specialists to conduct a comprehensive forensic investigation.

Through that investigation, the firm determined that an unauthorized party had gained access to its systems and copied certain files. A detailed review of those files was then carried out to identify the specific information involved and the individuals who may have been affected.

On May 1, 2026, a well-known threat actor called ShinyHunters claimed responsibility for the attack on a dark web. The group alleged that it had obtained personally identifiable information and other internal corporate data from Towerpoint Wealth.

The types of consumer information exposed in this breach included names, Social Security numbers and financial or investment account information.

The breach was reported to the California Attorney General on June 5, 2026.

Towerpoint Wealth began sending notification letters to affected individuals on June 5, 2026. The total number of people affected has not been publicly disclosed.
