The Helper Bees Inc., an Austin, Texas-based insurtech and aging-in-place platform, disclosed a data breach that exposed sensitive personal, financial and health information.

Founded in 2015, the company helps older adults remain in their homes by connecting them with non-medical in-home care services such as meal delivery, transportation and home modifications through insurance plans.

The company works with major insurance carriers and health plans to digitize care coordination and streamline claims processes. Its subsidiary Dimensions Inc. serves as a third-party vendor that supports New York Life's long-term care insurance claims processes.

An unauthorized party gained access to an email mailbox at The Helper Bees that contained sensitive personal and health information. The company determined that the period of unauthorized access began on June 16, 2026, and continued through July 8, 2026, when The Helper Bees became aware of the incident.

Following the discovery, a review of the affected mailbox activity was conducted to determine the full scope of the unauthorized access. As part of that review, The Helper Bees examined whether any other email accounts within the organization were forwarding protected information to external recipients. The company stated in its notification that no additional such forwarding activity was confirmed during the review.

The breach exposed a broad range of both personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI) including first and last name, date of birth, gender, ethnicity, marital status, Social Security number, financial account information and credit or debit card numbers, Medicare number, medical records and diagnosis.

The breach was disclosed to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation on Aug. 20, 2026.
