On April 13, 2024, Safe Fleet Holdings, a leading provider of fleet safety solutions, detected suspicious activity within its computer systems. An investigation, supported by third-party cybersecurity specialists, determined that an unauthorized actor gained access to certain systems and accessed or removed sensitive information.

The breach was discovered on May 27, 2025, and after a comprehensive programmatic and manual review, Safe Fleet confirmed that the incident exposed the personal information of 7,478 individuals in the United States, including two Maine residents.

The types of information exposed in this breach included names, addresses, Social Security numbers and financial account information.

The company’s investigation revealed that the unauthorized access occurred on or before April 13, 2024. The process to identify affected individuals, validate the findings and collect up-to-date contact information was completed in July 2025. Safe Fleet notified state regulators, including the Maine Attorney General and the Vermont Attorney General, about the breach. Written notices were mailed to affected individuals on July 18, 2025.

The breach is considered significant due to the nature of the information accessed. Social Security numbers and financial account details are highly sensitive and can be used for identity theft or financial fraud. The company has not disclosed the identity of the unauthorized actor or the specific method used to gain access, but the scope of the review and the offering of credit monitoring services suggest a serious compromise of internal systems.

Safe Fleet Holdings’s response

In response to the incident, Safe Fleet Holdings took several immediate and ongoing steps. Upon discovering the breach, the company quickly initiated an investigation with external cybersecurity experts, assessed the security of its network and began identifying affected individuals. Federal law enforcement was notified and Safe Fleet has cooperated with any related investigations.

To help protect those impacted, Safe Fleet provided written notice to all affected individuals, including guidance on how to guard against identity theft and fraud. This guidance included instructions on placing fraud alerts and credit freezes, monitoring accounts for suspicious activity and obtaining free credit reports.

Safe Fleet is offering twelve months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity restoration services through TransUnion to all affected Maine residents. These services are designed to alert individuals to changes in their credit file and provide proactive fraud assistance in the event of identity theft. The company has also implemented additional safeguards and employee training to bolster its cybersecurity posture.

Anyone who received a notification from Safe Fleet should consider enrolling in the offered credit monitoring service within 90 days and remain vigilant by reviewing account statements and credit reports for unusual activity. Reporting any suspected fraud to banks, credit card companies and law enforcement is strongly recommended.
